QT2-208 branch-circuit planning checklist
Use this table as an ordering checklist for a QT2 three-phase branch. Final quantities depend on array layout, branch length, conductor ampacity, overcurrent protection, and local code.
| Component | Planning quantity | Purpose | Ordering note |
|---|---|---|---|
| QT2-208 microinverter | 1 unit per 1 to 4 PV modules | Converts four module inputs to balanced native three-phase AC. | Check module voltage/current against the APsystems compatibility tool and QT2 datasheet. |
| QT2 5-wire AC bus cable | 1 connector position per QT2; order by branch length | Carries L1, L2, L3, neutral, and protective earth across the branch. | The listed cable uses 2.4m connector spacing; map roof layout before ordering. |
| 5-wire AC bus end cap | 1 at the exposed end of each QT2 branch | Weatherproofs the unused end of the AC bus cable. | Use APsystems part 2062050002 and fully seat the cap per the installation manual. |
| 40A male / female AC connectors | One matched feed or transition pair per branch design | Connects the QT2 bus cable to the branch feeder or approved transition cable. | Confirm conductor size, phase sequence, and connector gender before ordering. |
| ECU gateway | Typically 1 per monitored site; size by communication layout | Commissions microinverters and sends production data to the EMA platform. | Use ECU-R for standard monitoring or ECU-C when commercial metering or zero export is required. |
A licensed designer or electrician must confirm branch limits, breaker size, disconnects, grounding, cable routing, and the exact APsystems installation manual before ordering.
APsystems microinverter, ECU, storage and rapid-shutdown FAQ
Straight answers to common questions about DS3-L, QT2, ECU gateways, APstorage, and APsmart rapid shutdown.
What is the difference between APsystems DS3-L and DS3?
Both are dual-module single-phase microinverters with two independent MPPTs. For the North American models, DS3-L is rated at 768VA maximum continuous AC output, while DS3 is rated at 880VA. The higher-output DS3 can reduce clipping with higher-power modules, but module electrical limits, branch-circuit limits, availability, and project economics still determine the right model. This collection currently stocks DS3-L.
How does APsystems DS3-L compare with a one-module microinverter such as Enphase IQ8?
DS3-L serves up to two PV modules from one microinverter while keeping an independent MPPT for each input. Many Enphase IQ8 models use one microinverter per module. Compare the exact AC output, supported module voltage and current, units allowed per branch, monitoring hardware, rapid-shutdown listing, warranty terms, and service workflow rather than comparing brand names alone. DS3-L uses the APsystems ECU and EMA monitoring ecosystem.
Should I use DS3-L or QT2 for my project?
Use DS3-L for a compatible single-phase residential or small commercial service. Use QT2 for a native three-phase site. QT2-208 connects directly to a 208Y/120V three-phase system and balances its output across L1, L2, and L3. Single-phase DS3 and three-phase QT2 hardware do not share the same AC branch-cable architecture, so choose from the building service before building the bill of materials.
What is the difference between QT2-208 and QT2-480?
QT2-208 is for 208Y/120V three-phase service and is rated at 1728VA. QT2-480 is for 480Y/277V three-phase service and is rated at 1800VA. They are not interchangeable because the grid-voltage window and branch equipment differ. This collection currently stocks QT2-208; contact us to confirm availability and the full 480V bill of materials for a QT2-480 project.
How many solar panels connect to one QT2, and how many MPPTs does it have?
One QT2 can accept 1 to 4 PV modules through four DC inputs. It has two MPPTs, so two inputs share each MPPT. APsystems describes compatibility with modules up to 650W+ while requiring the actual module voltage, current, and temperature-adjusted limits to remain within the QT2 datasheet and compatibility guidance.
Do DS3-L and QT2 need an ECU, and what is the difference between ECU-R and ECU-C?
DS3 and QT2 use an external ECU for commissioning, EMA monitoring, production data, and remote diagnostics. ECU-R is the standard monitoring gateway commonly used on residential and straightforward commercial sites. ECU-C adds commercial functions such as metering, zero-export control, and redundant energy control. Internet loss does not by itself change the inverter's grid-safety behavior, but a working ECU connection is important for monitoring, troubleshooting, and warranty records.
Can APstorage be added to an existing APsystems microinverter system?
Yes, APstorage ELS-11.4 is an AC-coupled 120/240V split-phase storage PCS, so it can be designed as a retrofit alongside an existing grid-tied PV system. It pairs directly with the 10.24kWh APbattery and supports up to 16 APbattery units in parallel. Backup-panel design, transfer equipment, service size, load calculations, generator integration, and the current APsystems battery compatibility list must be checked for the specific project.
Does APsmart RSD-D-20 work with Solis -APST inverters?
Solis uses the -APST suffix to identify models ordered with a factory-integrated APsmart Transmitter-PLC. APsmart RSD-D receivers appear in approved rapid-shutdown combinations for specified Solis inverter families, but approval is model-specific. Match the exact inverter, transmitter, RSD receiver, system voltage, and current rating to the current certification document before ordering. Browse the Solis collection and confirm that the selected inverter SKU includes the -APST suffix when APsmart receivers are required.
