FAQ

1. Which inverters support closed-loop communication with the Pytes E-Box-48100R?

The E-Box-48100R supports closed-loop CAN/RS485 communication with major inverter brands, including:

  •  Sol-Ark (e.g., 12K, 15K)
  •  Victron Energy (via Cerbo GX / Venus OS)
  •  Luxpower
  •  Growatt (e.g., SPF series)
  •  Deye
  •  Schneider Electric & Phocos
2. Can I mix the older E-Box-48100R with the newer Pytes V5 or 48100R-C models?

Yes, but with caveats. The BMS firmwares must match, and the battery with the newest/master BMS firmware should be set as the master unit (connected directly to the inverter). Note that the newer V5 model includes internal heating pads, whereas standard 48100R units do not.

3. What is the recommended way to wire multiple Pytes 48100R units in parallel?
  • Up to 3 units: Diagonal daisy-chaining (positive lead on Battery 1, negative lead on Battery 3) using short 25mm² interconnect cables.
  • 4 or more units: Use external busbars (e.g., Victron Lynx Power In) with fused, equal-length cable pairs to prevent current imbalances between units.
4. How many E-Box-48100R modules can be connected in parallel?

You can connect up to 16 modules in parallel per cluster without an external hub (providing up to 81.92 kWh). With an additional Pytes Hub (MB00), up to 56 or 224 modules can be scaled into a single system.

5. Why are my parallel batteries showing different State of Charge (SOC) levels?

SOC drifts occur due to internal resistance differences, cable resistance variations, or subtle BMS calibration differences between production batches. Performing a full charge up to 56.8V triggers top balancing and recalibrates the internal SOC.

6. Why is my inverter charging current throttling down or locking to 5A?

When a cell hits an over-voltage threshold or temperature boundary, the master BMS sends a signal requesting a temporary reduced charge current (e.g., 5A) to allow passive cell balancing. A soft reset of the BMS or bringing the pack down/up through a full balance cycle typically resolves this.

7. How do I monitor or pull telemetry data via local home automation (e.g., Home Assistant)?

You can read battery data directly via the Console (RS232) port on the front panel. Community integrations (like ESPHome with a MAX3232 RS232 transceiver) allow real-time monitoring without interrupting CAN/RS485 communication with the inverter.

8. What happens if a battery goes into deep sleep (0V output reading)?

If fully discharged, the internal BMS opens the contactor for protection, showing 0V at the terminals. You can wake it by applying a 48V DC charging source (using lead-acid profile/no-BMS mode on the inverter) or using the reset button on the front panel.

9. What are the correct charge and discharge voltage settings for open-loop mode?

If running open-loop (no CAN/RS485 communication):

  • Bulk / Absorption Voltage: 56.4V – 56.8V
  • Float Voltage: 54.0V
  • Low Voltage Cutoff: 47.5V – 48.0V
  • Recommended Max Charge/Discharge Current: 50A per battery (100A peak)
10. Why does my inverter override my voltage settings when closed-loop is active?

When closed-loop communication is enabled, the battery BMS takes total control over charging Parameters. Settings on Sol-Ark, Victron, or Deye inverters will automatically update to 56.8V absorption based on BMS commands.

11. Does the E-Box-48100R require periodic 100% charging?

Yes. Even if kept in a partial state-of-charge schedule (e.g., 20% to 90%), charging to 100% (56.8V) once every week or two allows the passive balancer to balance individual cells.

12. Can the E-Box-48100R be installed in unheated environments during winter?

The standard 48100R model does not include built-in heating pads (unlike the newer Pytes V5). Charging must cease if ambient temperatures drop below 32°F (0°C) to protect the LFP cells from damage.

13. What is the expected lifespan and warranty cycle count?

The unit is rated for ≥ 6,000 cycles at 90% Depth of Discharge (DOD). Under typical daily cycling, the battery is expected to last 10–15 years before dropping to 70–80% original capacity.
