Description

The Pytes V5 is a modular lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery designed for residential solar energy storage, backup power, and off-grid systems. Each battery stores 5.12 kWh of nominal energy at 51.2V and 100Ah. Its key advantages include expandable capacity, high charge/discharge capability, built-in battery management, and an integrated self-heating function for cold-weather operation.

Key Benefits:

  • 5.12 kWh per battery: Store solar energy for nighttime use or backup power.

  • LFP battery chemistry: Lithium iron phosphate is commonly used for stationary storage because of its thermal stability and long cycle life.

  • High power capability: The V5 family supports a higher charge/discharge rate than many conventional 48V batteries; exact current limits depend on the version.

  • Cold-weather self-heating: The integrated heating function helps the battery operate in low temperatures, subject to the model’s operating limits.

  • Expandable design: Add compatible modules to increase energy capacity.

  • Inverter communication: Supports CAN and RS485 communication; verify the exact inverter model and firmware compatibility before installation.

  • Long service life: Pytes lists a cycle-life rating of at least 6,000 cycles and a 10-year warranty for the V5 family, subject to the applicable warranty terms.

FAQ

1. How does the Pytes V5 differ from the older E-Box-48100R?

The V5 introduces several major upgrades over the older E-Box series:

  • Built-in Heating Pads: Automatic self-heating for sub-freezing operation.
  • Higher Power Density: Standard 75A / 100A max continuous charge/discharge rating (100A output vs. 50A on older modules).
  • Upgraded Terminals: Heavy-duty Phoenix contact push-in terminals instead of standard cable lugs.
  • Form Factor: Slightly more compact profile (3.2U) and built-in 320A internal fuse.
2. Can I mix the new Pytes V5 and the older E-Box-48100R in the same battery bank?

No. Pytes and DIY installers explicitly warn against paralleling the V5 directly with E-Box-48100R batteries in the same bank. They use different internal BMS protocols, busbar termination connections, and charging algorithms. If you own both, they must be set up in separate, isolated battery banks.

3. What rack size is required for the Pytes V5?

The V5 unit measures approximately 3.2U in height. Most rack configurations allot 4U (7 inches) of vertical space per unit to leave adequate clearance for cooling and busbar connections.

4. How does the self-heating feature work on the Pytes V5?

When ambient temperatures drop below 41°F (5°C) and a charging current is supplied (e.g., from solar panels or the grid), the internal BMS redirects power to internal 170W heating pads. Once the internal cell temperature reaches 50°F (10°C), the heater shuts off and standard cell charging resumes.

5. Does the heater drain energy directly from the battery itself?

No. The heating element is powered only by external incoming power (from your solar charge controller or grid inverter). It will not draw down stored battery capacity to heat itself if there is no charge current available.

7. Which inverters support closed-loop CAN/RS485 communication with the V5?

The V5 BMS supports plug-and-play closed-loop integration with:
- Sol-Ark (e.g., 12K, 15K, 30K)
- Victron Energy (via Cerbo GX / Venus OS)
- EG4 / Luxpower
- Deye
- Schneider Electric / Growatt

8. How many Pytes V5 units can be connected in parallel without an external hub?

Up to 14 modules can be connected in parallel in a single cluster using closed-loop communication without needing the standalone Pytes 1U Energy Hub.

9. Why does my V5 dwell or get stuck at 90% state-of-charge (SOC) during charging?

LFP battery voltage curves are extremely flat between 20% and 90%. The V5 BMS calculates mid-range SOC through amp-hour integration (coulomb counting). Near the top end (~90%), the BMS intentionally throttles charge current down to perform passive cell balancing. It may linger at 90% for a period before recalibrating to 100%.

10. What is the passive balancing rate on the V5 BMS?

The BMS uses passive balancing, which bleeds off small amounts of current (around 2.0A–2.4A) from the highest-voltage cell series while trickle-charging lower cells. Complete cell alignment can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours at 100% SOC.

11. Does the Pytes V5 require periodic 100% full charges?

Yes. To keep the BMS SOC accurate and prevent cell drift across multiple parallel packs, the battery bank should reach 100% SOC (56.8V) at least once every 1–2 weeks.

12. What are the warranty and lifespan expectations for the Pytes V5?

The V5 uses Tier-1 LFP prismatic cells rated for ≥ 6,000 cycles at 90% Depth of Discharge (DOD). It carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty and an expected calendar lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
