Price per watt is the simplest way to compare solar panels with different wattages and quantities. It separates equipment value from a pallet's total price, but it is only one part of a complete solar project budget.
How to calculate panel price per watt
Divide the product price by the total DC wattage included. A pallet with 36 panels rated at 440W contains 15,840W, or 15.84kW. If the pallet costs $4,800, the equipment price is about $0.30 per watt.
Self2Solar displays price per watt on applicable pallet product cards in the Solar Panels collection.
Individual panels versus full pallets
Full pallets usually have a lower per-panel cost and ship in factory packaging designed for freight handling. Individual panels help with replacements, small additions and projects that do not need 30 or more modules. Compare the order format, minimum quantity and shipping method before choosing.
Costs beyond the modules
- Freight or Will Call pickup
- Roof or ground-mount racking
- Inverters, rapid shutdown and monitoring
- Wire, disconnects and other balance-of-system equipment
- Engineering, permits, labor and utility interconnection
For lower-48 pallet delivery, freight commonly varies by address and delivery conditions. Limited-access locations, liftgate service and remote ZIP codes may cost more. The collection page shows current warehouse and freight guidance, while checkout provides the final charge.
What changes module price per watt?
Cell technology, efficiency, frame and glass construction, warranty, country of assembly, brand, pallet quantity and inventory availability all affect price. N-type TOPCon and domestic-assembly options may cost more than older mono PERC products. A higher purchase price can still make sense when roof area is limited or a project requires a particular certification or sourcing standard.
Use comparable numbers
Compare the same scope. A module-only price per watt should not be compared directly with a turnkey installed quote that includes labor, racking, electrical upgrades and permits.
